R’ Shayala Kerestirer was a great rabbi who performed many miracles. I used pictures I took when I visited the small village of Kerister (where the tzaddik is buried) as reference for this painting. Surrounded by rolling hills and vineyards, being there felt like visiting another realm
The Rebbe - who labored in Torah, poured out his heart in prayer, would stop everything if a Jew needed a cold drink or warm bed, would cease his holy toil to help another. He belonged to the people, and they to him.
Today, more than ninety years after the passing of Reb Shayele, his stories, image, and teachings still serve as a source of blessing and healing.
